"ACOSA Grand National Champion Spotted Jennet"

In Loving Memory
10/11/96 ~ 4/28/05

Alanis was killed in a freak accident - she will be greatly missed. We have retained her only daughter, Taste The Rainbow, in our breeding program. Bow was born on her mom's birthday and she will be kept here at Half Ass Acres in honor of her dam who we all adored.

Alanis' dam was a 32½" very dark brownish gray who was our most correct jennet, Half Ass Acres Christy, and she was sired by our retired spotted jack, Indiana Jones. She is a full sister to Monty, 2003 Grand National Spotted Gelding, and 2004 NMDA Grand National Gelding, and Harley, top 3 Grand National Winner Spotted Jack. Alanis won her class and then stood Grand Champion Spotted Jennet at the Great Celebration Mule & Donkey Show for the ACOSA Nationals held July 3rd, 1999.  She was then retired to our brood jennet band.

Alanis was the dam of the following two foals:

1) HHAA Mahogany MoJo, a gorgeous dark brown gelding, foaled on 4/27/02.
2) HHAA Taste The Rainbow, dark spotted jennet, foaled on 10/11/03.

Shawnee was not only beautiful but she had the most comical personality of just about any donkey that we have met. She was so dark brown that she almost looked black and white and she had a perfect spot pattern. She was stocky and correct and had everything we look for in a jennet. The above photos were taken in November with her thick winter coat. She was absolutely gorgeous when we body clipped her but we were unable to photograph her as she was killed in an accident the night before we planned to take new photos of her.

Shawnee was the dam of the following three foals:

1) HHAA Bada Bing, 6/09/04 dark brown jack;
2) HHAA Secret's OutSecret's Out! - copyright Half Ass Acres Miniature Donkeys 5/20/06, dark brown jennet;
3) HHAA Simon SezSimon Sez ~ copyright Half Ass Acres 3/12/08, very dark brown jack.

Strawberry is our most popular jennet because when she brays she sounds like an Opera singer. Everyone wants to hear her bray. We look forward to hearing her bray at feeding time every day. It is a bright spot in our day. We purchased Strawberry from Wit's End Farm. We are so very pleased with this jennet. She is a dark cherry red with near flawless conformation. Strawberry was bred to Windcrest Firefly for a foal due on March 24th, 2010.

Sadly Strawberry was euthanized on 2/9/10 from complications due to suspected botulism poisoning.  A c-section was performed but her red jennet foal was already gone also from lack of oxygen to the uterus. Thank you to all the vets at Tennessee Veterinary Hospital who so valaintly tried to save mom and jennet.  It was a priviledge having Strawberry in our lives. We will forever miss her lyrical 'opera' brays every day for the rest of our lives. We cannot imagine our lives without hearing her musical voice everyday. Now she will be singing in Heaven.

Strawberry was the dam of the following six foals:

1) Windcrest Sweet Harmony, a dark red jennet foaled in 2002;
2) Wit's End Appalachian Foxfire, 6/20/04, dark cherry red gelding;
3) Wit's End Home-Run, 8/04/05, dark red gelding;
4) Wit's End Kurb Appeal, 9/20/06, dark red gelding;
5) HHAA 'Atta' Boy,
9/23/08, dark red jack w/star.
6) Unnamed Red Jennet, delivered stillborn by c-secion during Strawberry's death on 2/09/10.
