Lulu's dam, Farrah, traces back to original imports, Parentheses and
Luigi. Poor little Farrah..she has waited five years to have another
baby and her new little girl was born with a hip or stifle injury. She
is going to the vet tomorrow for x-rays. We will post updates on her
condition soon. Update: Her kneecap is out of place and she will need
an operation to reposition it on the front of her stifle. She is going
on Thursday to a vet who is a specialist in this area. She weighed 22
lbs at four days of age at the vet's office. Thank you to fellow marestare
watcher, Sherrie McIntosh of DreamKeeper
Miniature Horses, that has named our little girl Skip To My Lu.
We are going to call her LuLu.
Update for 11/09/06..Lulu and her mom, Farrah, are at the Nolinsville
Vet Clinic about 24 miles away from us. The vet is going to x-ray Lulu's
leg again because the first x-rays were not clear en0ugh to tell if
there were any deformities of her leg. If there are not then he is going
to go ahead with the patella fluxation surgery. Further updates will
be posted as soon as we know more. Thank you to everyone for all their
well wishes and prayers.
11/10/09 Update. Wonderful news!! The x-rays showed no deformity and
the operation was successful. Little Lulu and her mom can come home
tomorrow (Saturday - November 11th) if she has no fever!! Thank you
to everyone for their prayers and concern! You will be able to view
her on the web cam for the next two months as she has to be stalled
for that long.
Update 11/11/06!!! Lulu and her mom are
home now. Lulu's operation seems to be a success...she is recovering
from her surgery. She has to have liquid medicine two times a day for
the next seven days. We are to take her temperature daily. She is to
have complete stall rest for 30 days...then the next 30 days they can
be moved to a small paddock. I am sure that we will keep Lulu and her
mom around the barn area all winter long. We have made her a nice bed
of straw under her heat lamp and she is wearing a foal blanket that
had to be specially adjusted for her tiny size. They had to clip all
the hair off of her left hip and leg and down both sides of her neck
for her IV's..but she is toasty warm now in her hot pink blanket! A
special thank you to all the folks at the Nolensville Vet Clinic that
fell in love with Lulu and took such good care of her and a very special
thank you to her surgeon, Dr. Barry Flye, and the attending vet, Dr.
James McKee. One more special 'thank-you' you to Becky and Morgan from
Michigan for helping us take the 'after' photos and videos of Lulu.
Update 11/18/06:
Lulu has completed all of her medication and is continuing to improve.
Update! 11/21/06...Lulu has her stitches
removed today at the vets at 10:45am.
Newest Update: 12/14/06: Lulu went for
her checkup and the vets have released her to run like the wind now.
She does not have one sign of a limp! Her entire leg is a little rotated
to the outside but it does not seem to be giving her one little bit
of trouble.
