Now, about Bruise. I think his pictures say it all but just let me say this is one stout boy. His wide chest, his stocky build, his heavy bone structure, that perfect small baby doll head, all are the makings of a Jr. Herd Sire if I ever did see one. Bruise has blue/grey eyes like several of his half brothers and sisters sired by Itsy Bitsy Front and Center. He weighed in at 25 ½ lbs and only 20 ¾ inches tall at birth. It was evident this little black hunk could deliver a “knock-out punch” in the pasture with the girls, or in the ring…that is show ring.

The photos above were taken August 26th, 2010.

We have been searching literally for years trying to find the perfect out-cross jack to breed to our Firefly daughters that we have retained over the years. The search has finally ended now that we have found SparksaFire!! Sparks was the 2007 Junior Grand Champion during The Great Celebration Mule & Donkey Show. We were delighted when we carefully measured him and he was a mere 31¼" tall. Thank you to Frank & Mary Williams of Short & Sweet Donkey Ranch for allowing Sparks to come to live at Half Ass Acres! We are in love with his perfect top-line, correct legs and gorgeous head!

Sparks was photographed the day after he was body clipped. He is the color of an old copper penny. He will be brighter in about a month and we may photograph him again if he looks even better.

How do I begin, where do I start, how can I explain? The people, who know me well, know that Junebug has always held a very special place in my heart. I have always loved her so much, even before I ever owned her. Then one day, Junebug was ours and all was right with the world. She foaled, Black & Blue a.k.a. Bruise, in 2008, who we have retained in our herd and who, by the way, we consider to be the finest jack on our farm. We chose to breed her to Napoleon this time knowing that the elegance from both parents would only produce a masterpiece. We were not wrong!!

As we watched this little guy being born all we saw was white, and more white, and very few spots. As he dried it was evident that his few tyger spots had been delicately placed to perfection. He has dark spots around his eyes with dark eyeliner (guyliner!) all the way around both eyes, three tear drop tyger spots on his left shoulder, on his mid section, back of legs, and ears.  All of his spots have deep halos around each one which means his spots will never change. When he was completely dry his coat resembled lofty clouds floating in the clear blue sky. He stood there with a presence of beauty rarely seen in a new born jack….and he weighed 31 lbs. standing 22.25”…. built like a tank!!! If he had arm muscles I’m sure he would have flexed them to all the other donkeys as if to say, “JEALOUS MUCH?” He is a one of a kind boy with lots of herd sire potential. We are keeping this boy as our new junior herd sire.

Boy is Brickman ever tiny! Dark eyeliner all the way around both eyes too. We love the character of the little boy, Brick, in the situation comedy 'The Middle' and we wanted to name a donkey after  him. ***hanging my head and repeating in a whisper....... 'after him'*** Thank you to Dena Wilson for handling Brickman during his photo shoot.

Brick attended his very first show in April of 2011, and placed 1st in a very large foal class (8 entries) at the Mule Day Mini Mania Show in Columbia, Tennessee!

Brick attended his second show August of 2011, and placed 1st in an even larger weanling/yearling jacks to halter class (9 entries) against very stiff competion in Lebanan, Tennessee! Brick has defeated his stablemate, Jealous Much, every time he has shown against him. But don't tell Much!! We are so very proud of Brick!

2011 Tennessee Donkey ASSociation's High Poiint Halter Jack & Reserve High Point In-Hand Jack!Brick was the 2011 "High Point Halter Jack of Tennessee" and "Reserve High Point In-Hand Jack" after his first and only year of showing!  He tied with his stablemate, HHAA Jealous Much, for these awards.

Firefly had everything we looked for in a jack; a wonderful temperament, heavy-boned, balanced, a gorgeous color, and so tiny too! He passed all these wonderful qualities to his offspring. We have retained quite a few Firefly daughters and we also now have his son, Radiance. We have changed to another jack with a completely different pedigree so we no longer have a need for Firefly's services. He has been a wonderful jack for us for many, many years.

Firefly was castrated on October 2nd, 2012, and he is now living in a very special home that is giving him the life he deserves.

Pepper is our pride and joy! He is perfect in every way...small, stocky, square, correct and he produces all those qualities in his offspring. You can spot a 'Pepper' baby in our pastures a mile away. He is also so laid back that a child could handle him.

Pepper was retired and gelded on 5/01/12, so that he can live out the rest of his life in happiness. We have several of his daughters and grand daughters in our herd so his legacy will live on!

These photos were taken in September of 2010, at sixteen years of age!
